Review:
Saladin, a true hero of Islam, lived in the middle east during the war-torn twelfth century. His mentor was the Turkish sultan Nur al-Din, from whom he learned that a truly righteous man lived simply and devoted his riches to the welfare of his people. Educated by the sultan, he appropriated his dream that Muslims could unite and fight against the Crusaders, the Christians, who had conquered and were ruling Jerusalem and the holy land. Saladin became the great military leader who achieved this dream, while treating his enemies with justice.

In full-color paintings that contain delicate Islamic patterns, Stanley introduces children to a significant, noble Muslim at a time when it is important to know of them.
