Review:
Despite its title, Laurie Berkner's new rockin' release is as sunny as they come, with playful songs about sweet treats ("Choc-o-lot in my Pock-o-lot" and "Rhubarb Pie [Hot Commodity]), a dancing dragon ("Do the Dragon"), and the pleasant shock of recognition ("Who's That?"). "I'm Gonna Catch You" is a unique delight: "So I jumped into Saturday/had a baseball-batter-day...So I jumped into Sunday/had a super-fun-day...." Berkner is at her best when offering listeners her uncloying, gentle, "you're great" messages, something that she does in a variety of ways, using humor and a vision of childhood as peaceful, playful, and safe. Her idyllic track, "Running Down the Hill," ranks with the best of the best children's songs.
