Review:
In Cornwall, nineteen-year-old Mary Bryant and her accomplices, Catherine Fryer and Mary Haydon, are sentenced in January of 1786 to be hanged for the crime of stealing a woman's silk bonnet and a few shillings. After three months in chains, the girls expect to be executed. Instead, the judge sentences them to be "transported" to Botany Bay (later Sidney, Australia) with other convicts to establish a new colony.

The hardships Mary and her friends endured are mind-boggling, but Mary is incredibly strong and strong-willed. She has a mariner's baby girl, marries a convict at Botany Bay and has a son. She is determined to escape, and ultimately sails away with her family and a few others in a small boat. This true adventure is a page-turner.
