Heart of The World by Sarah Pirtle
Fall 2003 MusicReview:
Accompanied by fiddle, mandolin, banjo, guitar, and drums, those might be
traditional folk songs that Sarah Pirtle is singing in her warm, lilting soprano,
but listen closely: the well-crafted lyrics in those pretty folk-style
melodies are about whale-watching, sharks, the lives of
salmon, and how water cycles from clouds to earth and back again to the
phases of the moon, the function of cells, DNA and quarks. "Dolphin Dog" is a
whimsical track about a pup who wants to swim with the dolphins; "Magic Wings" and
"True to Myself" are inspirational anthems. What Pirtle succeeds best at is
imparting a sense of storytelling wonder in her educational melodies.
