Review:
This live recording of a Lolli-Pop Concert is an introduction to the instruments of the orchestra, made appealing to the young ones at home and in the concert hall by a genial conductor who looks as if he just stepped out of a band box, ably assisted by four costumed characters who prance with props: Toot the Bird (charmed by the woodwinds), Buzz the Bumble Bee (enamored of the brass), Bang the Lion (enthralled with the percussion section), and Bow the Panda (yes, you guessed it, a devotee of the strings). The concert offers enough variety-bright colors, spirited music, numerous references to candy, and general frolicking-to keep the little ones entertained while hearing such favorites as Victor Herbert's March of the Toys, Mozart's Turkish Rondo, and the piece where all the instruments play in happy communion, Rossini's William Tell Overture. There is solid educational value to this recording, enhanced by an interactive quiz and a backstage chat with the maestro.
