Review:
Companion to the successful and fun first volume put out by this duo in 2001, this volume features original stories based on fairy tales. Each rhyming story is split into parts differentiated by the color of the text. One color is for one reader and the other for the second reader. There is a third color for the two to read together. The inspirations for the stories include the standbys: Cinderella, three billy goats, princess and the pea, Jack and the beanstalk. However the actual poem-stories are anything but standbys. Goldilocks and baby bear decide to go to Goldieā€™s house for some more porridge and a picture book. The third little pig gets the big bad wolf to promise to be nice and they too end up reading. In point of fact, each of the eight stories ends with the characters reading to each other. A wonderful jumping off point for shared reading adventures, the poems are, again, silly fun -- and no one can complain about reading that.
