Strange Attractors Starter KitFall 2004 Toys
Ages: 5 - 12 yrs.
Manufacturer: Design Science Toys
Review:The set consists of magnets in the shape of rods that can cling to steel balls. By experimenting with different shapes and joining techniques, many different structures can be built. With magnet rods of varying lengths, this kit can be used to explore geometry as well as the way many different materials fit together at an atomic scale. The "long" sections are not actual magnets, they are hollow plastic tubes. A small magnet inserted in each end of the plastic tube results in a "long" magnetic rod that then attaches to the standard steel spheres. Although this adds an extra step in the construction, this arrangement allows for more variations. There were four supplied lengths of tubing, each a different color for a variety of color effects. The instruction book is reasonably detailed.
