Review:
James Marshall produced some of the most recognizable picture books of the 70’s and 80’s: the Miss Nelson books, the George and Martha books, and a series of marvelously updated interpretations of traditional fairy tales. Three of these fairy tales form the core of this new dvd. Originally animated by Weston Woods in the early 90’s and only made available to schools and libraries in more expensive editions, this newly compiled and affordable collection includes Marshall’s Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and The Three Pigs.

In the “extras”, there has never been a more exasperated wolf than in this animated version of Steven Kellogg’s Chicken Little. The polished reading of Paul O. Zelinsky’s Rapunzel, is well suited to the elegant illustrations. The interview with the late James Marshall in which he talks about his work and how he got started in writing and illustrating.
