Queenie Avery is suffering from Alzheimer's disease, but Randall Mackey just thinks his old friend's wife is forgetful. When he sees her wandering down the street of Foley, South Carolina, he tries to steer her back home, but not before they both see a woman leaving a box on the steps of the Rock of Ages Baptist Church. When the box is discovered to contain an African-American baby boy, Randall becomes the unwilling guardian of the secret of the woman's identity.
