Review:The third book in their admirable series about small-town America, its detailed, meticulous color etchings draw us into the mountain town the author and illustrator have created: houses, churches, stores and all. We learn how 19th century gold and silver prospectors first settled such towns in remote, mountainous areas where the precious ores were to be found. Through the four seasons of the year, we join the present inhabitants of just such an ex-mining town. We see, above and below ground, what makes it tick: ranchers, skiers and tourists are its mainstay today. Each viewing reveals more details of the town’s past and present. An admirable and authentic bit of Americana.
