Zoom

Spring 2005 Website
Ages: 8 - 12 yrs.
Review:
Promoting the motto of the Zoom television series, “By Kids For Kids” the goal of this website is to get children to actively “do” and learn, ask questions and explore. An extension of the Zoom TV show, the site includes activities/games, science experiments, and even healthy recipes. This well designed, easy to navigate, age-appropriate website actively encourages children to provide their ideas, opinions and input. In fact, children submit the experiments and instructions – as well as an explanation of the results of their experiments.

By doing the experiments, children observe the results/outcome firsthand. They can then submit comments on the outcome of their experiment and any additional recommendations that they may have. This makes learning far more fun than reading a textbook and allows the child to really get involved. The “Zoom Into Action” page that offers projects that kids can do to help others, by getting involved with their community.

Information about the television show is also presented, with a short biography about each cast member. It is important for website and tv show viewers to see that the kids on the show are everyday kids - just like them - with similar feelings and interests.
