Domino-like picture cards offer a delightful variety of games (and subliminal learning!). The challenge is to arrange cards in one's own game board so that images with common elements are aligned horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. For example, if the category is "things that fly," cards showing a swan, bird, airplane, and angel might be selected.

Another way to play is to look through one's assortment of cards and create one's own categories (such as initial letters, background color, things that are round, etc.), explaining to the other players why the chosen items have a "commonality." Testing supervisors said the picture naming, matching and thought process was a wonderful learning experience for the younger participants.

The game was equally appealing to adults, one of whom wondered "How did Briarpatch select the images for each square?" That might be fun for adults to ponder while the kids are playing.
