Review:
Take a Bow is an introduction to the world of JoJo, a personable preschool-age clown with the voice of an angel and a heart of cotton candy. With much of early-childhood television moving toward being interactive, these four episodes from Playhouse Disney's hit show demonstrate that JoJo's Circus is one of the most captivating examples. While it may be just as effective to simply record installments of the stop-motion animated show, this DVD exemplifies JoJo's universality as a child with normal flaws and curiosities. As evidenced by the first episode, "Easy As Pie," in which JoJo and her huggable pet lion make all kinds of mistakes on the first day at clown school, the program validates children's insecurities and invites kids to try ways to feel better. At the end of each episode, JoJo explains what she learned that day. In "Happy Hoppy World" (featuring some very funny, Slavic-accented, and acrobatic frogs), JoJo realizes that you can't always win but can still have fun. With catchy pop-rock music, wacky circus scenarios, and numerous friendly faces, the JoJo DVD represents the best of a show that helps children learn to move and feel good about themselves.
