Review:
Eebee is a completely charming multicolored rod-arm puppet who is about the size of a six-month old. In this new series, Eebee interacts with grownup Kristy and babies and toddlers while playing the simplest of games. How simple? In the first section, “Little Objects, Big Ideas” shows how anything during the day can be turned into a “teachable moment” for a baby. In “Laundry List,” Eebee and the babies learn about textures, object permanence, and building imaginative skills by playing with/in a basket of laundry. “Just You and Me” teaches several skills for sharing books with babies, and demonstrates simple social games that foster interaction. Bonus features include song selections and an “Eebee's Beat” dancing video. The two most important sections are the parents' guides, where child development experts discuss what Eebee is learning with each game in “Play by Play,” and explain the rationale for teaching through play. Much more engaging than typical DVDs aimed at cultivating geniuses, this is a guide for cultivating good parents.
