Postcards from Buster

Postcards from Buster

Spring 2006 Television
Ages: 4 - 8 yrs.
Network: PBS
Show Description:
In a children's television first, Postcards From Buster blends animation with first-person, live-action documentary footage. Its aim is to expose children to the diversity of culture in and around North America. The series also helps to develop the literacy, language, and communication skills of non-native English speakers. Postcards From Buster follows Buster Baxter as he wings his way across the country accompanying his father, who is piloting a fictional rock band Los Viajeros on their concert tour throughout the United States. The travelers also make forays into Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Each episode finds the animated Buster discovering new cultures and communities. Turning his video camera on to record his travel adventures and understand life in different venues, Buster creates a series of live-action. P.O.V.-style postcards to send to his friends back home. The show models language that young English learners need to make new friends; initiate and continue conversations; share information about themselves; and ask questions to learn more about another person's life, interests and culture.
