Long out of print, the return of Spectrangle is welcome for those who enjoy tactical games. The playing board is a large triangle, subdivided into 30 smaller triangles, some of which bear “bonus” numbers that will later be used in scoring. The playing pieces are trianguler tiles, each subdivided into even smaller triangles with varying arrangements of one, two, or three colors. In the center of each is a value from 1 to 5. The object of the game is to score the highest number of points by clever placement of tiles on the board.

All the tiles are kept in a bag until needed. The concealed tiles are the only element of luck in the game. At the start of the game, each player draws four tiles from the bag. The first player may place one tile anywhere on the board except a bonus space. After that, each player in turn places a new tile with at least one side touching the same color of a tile already on the board. After each play, the score is calculated by multiplying the value of the tile placed by the number of matching sides by the value of the bonus tile (if any). Scores are kept with pegs placed in holes around the outer edge of the board. The player then selects another tile from the bag to replenish the count to four.
