Review:
After Armpit returns from juvenile detention at Camp Green Lake (which was neither green nor a lake), his parents buy a home drug-testing kit and are on his case incessantly, despite the fact that he never had a problem with drugs. Working as a landscaper, Armpit has managed to save eight hundred and fifty-seven dollars. That is until his former fellow inmate, X-Ray, appears and cons him into a scheme to scalp tickets to the big Kaira DeLeon concert in Austin. In a comedy of errors, Armpit, who has taken Ginny, his ten year old disabled neighbor and admirer, to the concert, comes to the favorable attention of the star of the concert and is whisked away into Kaira’s very different world.

With his quirky sense of humor and compassion for the young, Sachar has written a funny, improbable, yet believable story in which an appealing hero with an unappealing name struggles to be true to himself through a series of disastrous misadventures.
