Review:
Ah, here comes the charming, loquacious Lilly again, clomping into our hearts in her red cowboy boots. When her teacher, Mr. Slinger, announces that he is marrying Ms. Shotwell, the school nurse, Lilly is determined to be the flower girl at the wedding.

When Mr. Slinger tells Lilly that his niece Ginger will be the flower girl, Lilly‚Äôs disappointment is so palpable that he designates Lilly to be the “flower girl's assistant.” Lilly tries, really tries, to deal with this demotion, but not even she can repress her natural irrepressibility.

Kevin Henkes obviously enjoys and understands the thinking processes of a small girl—or, in this case, a small mouse. With black outlines and bright watercolors, he captures the essences of this totally original character and the people who love her. A thoroughly delightful romp.
