A World of Music
Fall 2006 MusicReview:
Musicians Kelly Mulholan and Dona Stjerna, who when they play for adults are called Still on the Hill, have crafted an album of World Music songs, many based on traditional storytelling and legends. The duo's musicianship is deft; they play a plethora of instruments from around the world, usually matching instruments with the region from which the story or song originates. Several songs are built around demonstrating an unusual and specific instrument as in the “Didgeridoo Song,” which plays on the Australian wind instrument's deep resonant tones; “The Oud Is Not Food” cleverly showcases the Iranian stringed instruments subtle musical tones and rhythmic possibilities. The collection is very pleasantly and professionally played and sung, and is on the whole entertaining.
