Review:
In the village of Lalibela in Ethiopia, the men are the famed beekeepers. They weave tall, narrow baskets for the bees and hang them high in the trees. People come from far and near to buy honey in the village market. The girl Almaz loves to sample the golden honey in the market and dreams of becoming a beekeeper herself. Visiting the beekeepers, she unwisely confides her dream to them.

Using mixed media for the illustrations, the double-page spreads depict long, lanky characters with large hands. The people are angular, and the backgrounds, mostly muted shades of browns and greens. The chalk-like lines drawn in pastels suggest the flight of the bees.
