Review:
The Casson family, especially Rose, the youngest, is fond of misadventures and each other. They play together imaginatively. One day, during a rainy day meeting of the “Ghost Club” in her Class Four reading corner, Rose is so frightened and startled by her best friend Kiran, that she accidentally wets one of the carpet squares. As any fourth grader can attest, no humiliation could be greater. This is the beginning of quirky events that bundle the family and their friends into a colorful, delightful whole.

Hilary McKay has a unique sense of humor. It’s cumulative. She gives a subtle hint of something funny to come in the story, then a broader hint until finally, the humor in a family situation that has been precipitated by the characters’ various personality traits is fully revealed.
