Review:
Juno is a puppet character whose black pigtails stick up and out rather like Pippi Longstocking's. With her colorful friends Indie the cat, Bunny, Murphy the caterpillar and Buzz the bee, the characters learn how to face up to some scary things. In the first mini-episode, Juno needs to get her hair cut but is afraid to go. Watching Murphy get his hair cut helps her to realize it's OK. A child's voiceover accompanies hand-drawn animation of hair colors and textures, followed by film clips of children combing their own hair. Next, Bunny doesn't want to try the broccoli that Murphy has cooked. "No way to broccoli! Broccoli stinks!" he says, and sings, "Broccoli's not for me, broccoli tastes awfully!" (Of course he gives it a try and likes it, but I admit to first cringing at this since broccoli is one of the few veggies my picky preschoolers will eat.) Finally, Indie wants to be a cool cat but he's a scaredy one instead when it comes to getting into the wading pool. Buzz is afraid of the dark. They too overcome their fears for a happy ending-shadow dancing by all to a snippet from Mendelssohn's "Italian" symphony.

The original music is skillfully composed; the accompanying lyrics are well crafted. Despite the puppets' sometimes muffled conversations and Juno's shrill voice, newcomers to the world of children's video, Belinda Takahasi, Adam Adelman, and their production team have made this product worth recommending.
