Review:
This well-packaged chemistry set is cleverly disguised as a “Yuck!” kit. Enticing green goo is clearly visible inside a big plastic jar. Parents must supervise the activities that include making slime, growing superabsorbent polymers, and squishing sodium alginate strands that resemble “snot.” Kids' sense of touch will be mightily stimulated by these activities. Add fizzy food coloring tablets and these chemical products look as bad as they feel.

The products actually have interesting practical applications. The polymer crystals that absorb up to 150x their weight in water have been tested in diapers. They've been added to soil, during times of drought.

Yuck! Science kit has just enough activities to be satisfying without being overwhelming. In the activity guide, the directions are clear and the graphics are entertaining. An unpleasant fish head, globs, and an insect garnish the pages. Safety is emphasized, throughout.
