Review:
You can't fool Mother Nature, but apparently no one told that to Blue Burt and his best buddy, Wiggles. The two chums play all summer, the leaves start to change and Blue Burt has to begin packing for his fall migration. That's when Wiggles gets his brilliant idea: paint the town green and tape the leaves to their branches, and voila, it's summer forever. The can-do attitude and naïveté of Wiggles and Blue Burt give the story its childlike charm—they're so innocent that they don't even see the irony in a friendship between a bird and a worm. Ultimately, they realize that they can't hold on to summer after all, and Blue Burt must fly south to escape the cold. But they also learn a valuable lesson about friendship—that it isn't bound by geography. Derek Anderson captures a subject close to the hearts of many children, and does so with a gentle touch. His colorful paintings also are similarly sweet, full of expressive bright-eyed characters. This book is recommended for children at the younger end of the age range.
