Review:
With his much loved presence and accomplished history of helping children learn to read, Clifford the Big Red Dog bounds into the videogame arena with this charming game that brings humor and inventiveness into the early reading and writing process. Five games comprise an overall journey that Emily Elizabeth (Clifford's human playmate) undergoes as she travels around Birdwell Island to retrieve the missing pages of a joke book. According to the game's introduction, it's one of our Clifford's giant canine sneezes that sends the pages flying! Making this game especially effective is its automatic leveling system that allows the program to track a player's progress to determine the developmentally appropriate level of difficulty for each activity. The five games include Picture Perfect (which teaches word sounds), Movie Madness (which helps kids recognize letters and practice writing them with the console's stylus), Art Inspiration (which focuses on word building), Balloon Burst (which takes on lower and upper case), and Rhyme Runner (which develops an understanding of how words can end with the same sounds). Every time a player earns four paw prints, he wins a joke and is one step closer to collecting all the missing joke pages in the book. The pacing, graphics and sound quality are top notch.
