Review:

The problem with going back to the well once too often is that it's, well, once too often-even for longtime, movie-revived super heroes like Spider-Man. And that's the major problem with this latest game version of the third Spider-Man movie. Little more than your standard action game, like so many licensed off-film adventures, Spidey 3 brings almost nothing new to the DS's dual mini screens or to the worn-thin action-game genre.

Not that the game comes up a total yawner. The 3D graphics that arise from 2D-ish backgrounds of various identifiable New York districts are pretty cool, especially when the super web-meister springs into action to save the day. The game features more than 40 missions, most focusing on the Venom and Sandman plots from the movie, but some generating new characters and challenges.

But the real hero of this Spidey game is the DS touch-screens that allows players to control Spidey more hands-on directly in his fisticuffs and daring leaps from building to building. Bottom-line action here, after all, is beating up bad guys and rescuing innocent hostages (the cries of "Someone help me!" are endless). That's what Spider-Man's all about. And for Spidey devotees, that's probably is enough for this game to entertain for a while.
