Dora "Musical School Days"
Fall 2007 DVDReview:
Four individual Dora the Explorer episodes center around the theme of music. In the first, "La Maestra de Música," Dora and Boots help the music teacher get to school on time. In "Boots to the Rescue," Boots has to get the song Dora wrote and take it to her at school. "The Happy Old Troll" finds Dora and Boots trying to get over the Big Red Hill and over a lake to get to the Play Park, and "A Letter for Swiper" has them traveling through the muddy forest to Benny's Farm, then to Blueberry Hill. Along the way they sing cheery bilingual songs, use problem-solving skills, and engage the viewer in singing (and dancing) along. "I speak Spanish and English too. I like both; how about you?" is one chorus my sons have been singing ever since they first saw it. (I knew they'd truly absorbed the Spanish vocabulary when the three-year old showed me a balloon in a store ceiling and said, "Look, it's arriba!" Or when he shut his brother out of his room, and the six-year old yelled, "Don't you cierra the door on me!") With top-quality production values that parents have come to expect from the series, lilting and infectious tunes, and solid educational content, this is a sure winner.
