Imagine That!
Fall 2007 MusicOn their first kid's album, Washington DC-based duo Rick & Audrey Engdahl focus mainly on natured based, original compositions, in lyrical, acoustic settings. "Make a Garden Grow" is their excellent response to Dave Mallet's classic "Garden Song" and is uplifted by Audrey's strong lead vocal. "Oh Those Owls" is a sweet waltz that captures the magic of owls, while teaching mini lessons about the different variety of winged friends. The bluegrass flavored "Sandwiches Are Beautiful" should be sung in lunchrooms across the nation, while "Raining is a-Coming" is an Andrew Sisters style swing number.
The couple's harmony prowess is evident on the lovely, crystalline "Caterpillar," while "My Shadow" is performed Klezimer style. The Engdahls even rock out (a bit) on the growling "Dino-dino-dinosaur;" a welcome addition to the plethora of dinosaur songs. "Use A Map," a cool little instructional song, is obviously drawn from their work in classrooms. The album ends with the pop flavored celebration of "Snow Days," and the gentle lullaby "Go to Sleep.
