Review:
City kids are used to noise, from omnipresent traffic to the general hustle and bustle of an urban population. So maybe it's only natural that the baby in Marilyn Singer's book City Lullaby sleeps blissfully through the chaos of clanging trash cans, ringing cell phones, barking dogs and other noises. Singer's lively combination of sounds and repetition will appeal to young audiences, as will the counting backward from ten to one. And even very small children can appreciate the ironic humor when they find out what really does wake up Baby. Carll Cneut's vibrant acrylic and pastel illustrations capture the energy of the city, and part of the fun of reading the book is finding where Baby's red stroller is on each page. It's not exactly a lullaby, but it is a book to share with a little one.
