Review:
Apparently, not all dinosaurs got the memo about extinction. Barney, the big purple T-Rex with a heart of gold is still alive and singing away with his latest DVD, Celebrating Around the World. Although the Barney phenomenon has lately been eclipsed by newer, more modern characters, his upbeat attitude and common sense approach still resonates with kids. Celebrating Around the World uses the same formula of storytelling adventures as Barney and friends explore different cultural events across the globe. When party planning between two friends quickly turns into a bickering session, Barney uses the opportunity to teach them about tolerance. By taking a magical train, Barney, Baby Bop, BJ and friends travel around the world to see different cultures coming together to celebrate Carnival in Brazil, St. Patrick's Day in Ireland, the Cherry Blossom Festival in Japan, a music festival in Kenya and the Festival of Lights in India. Endless musical numbers get a little tiring, although the dance segments are certainly entertaining. The DVD gets bonus points for its bonus material-a very appealing Claymation show called Fifi the Forget-Me-Not.
