Porompompom, a multi-cultural album containing folk music and children's music in six languages: Spanish, English, German, Quechua, Portuguese, and French Creole, is produced and performed by La Negra Karin and Family a group comprised of Panamanian born musician Edgar East and his partner Columbian born musician Karin Stein, their three daughters Maya, Marta, and Emma and a host of friends and family members.

The album begins with the Spanish "María Isabel" from which the nonsense phrase of the album's title comes. The lovely "Nun Will Der Lenz Uns Grüßen" ("Lent is Here to Greet Us") sung by Stein in Medieval German, "Tinku" is based on a traditional rhythm from Bolivia, and the playful warning about ocean crabs on "La Acamaya" from Mexico. There are many fun English and bilingual songs such as "ABCs", recited in a Donald Duck voice, a slightly avant-garde rendition of "Be Kind to Your Web-footed Friends," and an absolutely gorgeous "Hejo / Hey Ho" sung in German.

By connecting to the album's web link you can access printable lyrics, translations and pronunciations, as well as (for a separate fee) a Latin America Music And Culture Kit, which is a multi-disciplinary teaching resource for music, band, choir, art, language, and social science teachers, developed with partial funding from the Iowa Arts Council. This CD is an excellent resource for families and educators wishing to teach children about multiculturalism, in a lively, joyful and natural style and manner.
