CritterQuest

Spring 2008 Television
Ages: 9 - 12 yrs.
Network: Smithsonian
Review:
You don't need Spiderwick's Magical Field Guide to enjoy the bounty of creatures in your own backyard. Peter Schriemer offers an entertaining alternative with Critter Quest, an informational nature show geared toward young explorers. According to Schriemer, adventure is a lot closer than you think. There's a myriad of creatures and critters who live fascinating lives very close to our own habitat. Studying them and learning from them is a hands-on experience and Schriemer's infectious enthusiasm for his subject matter is engaging and inspiring. Schriemer and his sister Emily offer practical information and as well ideas for projects to inspire further exploration. Minimalist production values suit the low key, informal nature of the show, but the appeal is far reaching as it takes bug catching and watching to a whole new level.
