Review:
Leaf Moon Arts offers sets of Story Boards for selected classic narratives. This concept is based on the Japanese kamishibai (picture-card drama, or paper theatre). The story is divided into corresponding visual and textual units and presented on sturdy 9 3/4" x 13" cards--with the illustrations on one side of the cards (for the listeners) and the text information on the reverse side (for the parent or educational leader), allowing optimal flexibility for the story presentation. This style also opens the door for additional educational experiences, such as putting the (mixed) cards back into the appropriate story sequence, encouraging oral story retelling from the pictorial stimuli, or studying the cultural details (as depicted through the beautiful illustrations). Each story is additionally presented in another language, thus offering optional bilingual experiences.

THE MOON PRINCESS is a 12-card display, with text in both English and Japanese. (A pronunciation guide is offered on the initial instructor's card.) This centuries-old story chronicles a wise and beautiful girl who fends off numerous marriage proposals before finally revealing her true self (regarding her connection to the moon). The story's symbolism and correlation to history (especially Mt. Fuji) could promote a variety of intriguing follow-up discussions.
