DragonflyTV
Fall 2008 WebsiteReview:
The Web site of the PBS series DragonflyTV has it all: videos, games, sounds, cool graphics, experiments and message boards for interaction. While clearly educational, dynamic animation and content make it an appealing Web site for tweens and their caregivers. The site brings science to life with episode videos from the TV broadcast, online games, science fair project ideas, message boards and downloads. Young hosts present their peers with information on a broad range of topics, including body and brain, earth and space, living things, matter and motion and technology and invention, in a way that is both educational and enjoyable.
The site is well organized and with each click, the user is able to learn more as topics are cross-referenced. For example, learn about the science of wind by watching a video of a real-life wind scientist at work, playing a hot air balloon game, creating a science fair project, or downloading a puzzle. Activities are offered at different difficulty levels, and a broad spectrum of science topics are explored. Users will want to check back frequently for new content, which is relevant, fresh, and age-appropriate.
