Cogito.org

Fall 2008 Website
Ages: 13 - 18 yrs.
Designer: Enforme Interactive
Review:
Developed through a collaborative effort by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth and eight partners, Cogito.org is aimed at children gifted in the mathematics and science fields. True to its tagline of "Connecting young thinkers around the world," the site profiles young scientists from a variety of countries and features articles, Web casts, podcasts and interviews with prominent experts in related subject areas.

Navigationally the site is well organized. Visitors can access all sections of the sites from the primary navigation at the top of the site with shortcuts to top rated sections in the left sub-navigation panel, and can also opt to filter content by subject area, such as biology or physics. One of the site’s strongest features is its comprehensive list of educational programs, internships, events and competitions searchable by grade and region. It also offers an information-packed Sites & Tools tab with links to hundreds of math and science-related Web sites, blogs, courseware, organizations and much more.

Although the majority of the information is available to all, some parts of the site are restricted to members only. Currently, membership is offered by invitation from Cogito partners and affiliates.
