P.O.V. - Documentaries with a Point of View
Fall 2008 WebsiteAt the time of this review, the Arabic documentary (with English subtitles) 9 Star Hotel - a film about the daily struggles of Palestinian men who have illegally crossed the border to work in construction in Israel - was available in its entirety to view online. Broken into four chapters, viewers could mouse over each chapter to get a better feel for the movie before watching it. Supporting content included an accompanying lesson plan for classroom teachers to use to examine and compare border issues around the world and a production journal with links to follow-up cast interviews and to ask the filmmaker questions directly.
While not all P.O.V. documentaries are available in their entirety on the site, associated material for both streamed and broadcast-only films provides informative support and extension for interested viewers. This is the best of documentary form, delivered in an interactive frame, direct to your nearest computer.
