Not to be confused with the horror-fantasy novel of the same title for kids by Chris Wooding, this small-sized 96-page hardback with a mesmerizing lenticular 3D cover image of a Black Widow spider, a Lion Fish and King Cobra is an excellent resource on all creatures poisonous. The back cover line reveals the theme: "What do a platypus, a sea cucumber and a wasp have in common? They all have poison!" This spiral wire-bound book will fascinate young nature lovers with its catalogue of creatures that carry poison-some dangerous, some not so much. Divided into three categories-"Land Animals," "Sea Animals" and "Air Animals"-it's filled with vivid photography and bulleted information about dozens of venomous critters-including a few you'd never suspect.

Sure, the Rattlesnake and Black Mamba snake are no surprise, and neither are the Black Widow spider and Scorpion. But what about the common catfish? The Pufferfish? The Short-Tailed Shrew? Or the Saddleback Caterpillar? And who knew about that poisonous spike on the hind foot of the male platypus? Well designed for lively quick learning.
