Review:
Melanie Walsh's green-themed new book is subtitled "Fun and easy eco-tips," and that truly sums it up. Her bottom line is that saving the planet isn't just a matter for scientists and Nobel Laureates---it comes down to advice that, quite literally, a child can follow. 10 Things I Can Do to Help My World is full of simple, practical, common sense tactics to combat environmental issues such as global warming and wasteful energy policies. We've all been told to turn off the sink when we brush our teeth, for example, but Walsh also explains that every time a person does so it saves eighteen glasses of water. By explaining the logic behind why a practice is considered eco-friendly, the message is more likely to be translated into a habit. Walsh's advice is applicable to all of us, but her actual text is decidedly geared toward young children. Her bold, cheery acrylic illustrations and simple shapes are similarly full of kid eye-appeal. Setting a fine example, the book is printed on 100% recycled material, and saves paper even further by not wearing a dust jacket.
