Review:
Between the walls of this handsome and sturdy book is a compilation of essays, stories, political satires, cartoons, speeches and poetry by famous educators, illustrators, and authors, with a forward by David McCullough. As the title belies, - all relate to life at the White House, or those who might have inhabited it or been affected by those who presided over it during its 216 years of existence. The 108 contributors to the anthology provide a wide-ranging display of talent. There are non-fiction offerings, such as transcripts of television interviews, and memoirs, as well as fictional accounts like Despereaux author Kate diCamillo's poem about Abe Lincoln. Scattered throughout the book's 256 pages is a wide array of illustrations.
