King of Little Things
Spring 2009 StorytellingReview:
This collection of three original, witty tales begins with the title story that coaxes listeners to recognize and appreciate the value of the "small" things in the world. BIG isn't always BEST, and Lepp boldly broadcasts this message when the king of all the little things confronts and defeats the greedy forces of the universe. Filled with luscious language and clever plot twists, this story leaves listeners with a new goal to befriend those who seem less significant than themselves.
Most young children plow through a misunderstanding of the units in our monetary system. In the story Dimes, the young boy misunderstands the monetary value of dimes and dollars--thinking that two dimes would be of greater value than one dollar. He then makes it his mission to earn dimes instead of dollars and proceeds through a comical journey toward his goal of "becoming rich." Families can discuss this child's monetary misconceptions and use the story as a fun educational lesson.
The final story, The Candy Monster, addresses several childhood problems and fears with a comical resolution.
