Didi & Ditto Preschool
Spring 2009 SoftwareThe first thing you'll notice about this game is how great it looks. The animation and character design are top notch, and the vast array of animated click-ables are as fun as the activities themselves. By completing instrument puzzles and playing activities, the player collects everything that's needed. This game addresses basic preschool skills - letter recognition, color and shape matching, memory, sounds, and sorting. It is generally appropriate, though a couple screens favor beauty over clarity. The player clicks on signs to enter areas, and once in an area, clicks on flags to enter activities. Flags disappear from the main menu navigation screen as the activities are completed. Voice-over provides clear direction, and an item needed for the party appears after the successful completion of each activity (each then followed by a song and the collection of the item). All of the activities are clearly presented, and can be played at three different skill levels.
However, while playing on the Mac where the saves were not working, we went through the opening animations several times. There's a section where you decide who to vote for Mayor, Zolt or Houdini. Every time Zolt was selected, Houdini still became Mayor, and our young player astutely asked why Zolt never got to be Mayor.
Overall, though, the goals of the game are clear and the animation is enchanting. Didi and Ditto is a fine pick for the preschool set.
