Review:Lorraine Nelson-Wolf continues her approach of providing gentle, nature orientated songs about the change of seasons. Wolf's music hails a less hurried time, where childhoods were lived outside, in wonder and reverence for the natural world; instead of being indoors in front of the computer, television or Gameboy screen. The music is mainly drawn from English, German, Slovak, South American and Canadian folk traditions, with songs including "Early One Morning/All the Birds," "I Had a Little Nut Tree" (from Mother Goose), a jaunty rendition of "Blow Wind, Blow," the sweet, lilting "I Walk With My Little Lantern," "Saint Martin" drawn from an anonymous poem, the gently melancholic "Autumn Goodbye," and the jazzy "Chickadee". Surely one of the album's many highlights is a gorgeous rendition of the classic Steiner round "My Paddle's Keen and Bright" paired seamlessly with Canadian/Native poet E. Pauline Johnson's "Land of the Silver Birch." Wolf celebrates the colder months by setting Cecily E. Pike's poem "Jack Frost" to a sprightly piano tune, and arranging Homer H. Harbour's "It Snows in the Night" to a fine drifting melody. Ms. Nelson-Wolf's Come Follow Me CDs should be treasured and sung with generations here and to come.
