Review:
With the unwieldy subtitle: "Songs for TV & Media Smart Kids, Creative Conflict Resolution & More," you know this release from respected children's artists Fink and Marxer isn't just for pleasure. It's to their credit, then, that there is much lively fun found amid all the worthy edification. There's a comic, consciousness-raising search for role models ("A Ballet Driving Truck Driver"), jazzy advice on handling stress ("Count to 10 and Try Again"), helping kids become aware of media manipulation ("Buy Me This and Buy Me That"). Humorist Bill Harley makes an appearance with "The TV Way," a tale about "Dr. Nasty" and "The Fearless Falcon," in which a savvy kid points out the difference between real life and what happens on TV. Other earnest, empowering songs include "The Power in Me" and "That's What I Like About You." Fink and Marxer's varied musical styles are complemented by a childen's gospel chorus and other children's voices.
