Review:
In the bouncy original song, “All God's critters got a place in the choir – Some sing low. Some sing higher...” The words introduce an array of singers. The bullfrog and the hippopotamus sing bass. The cat and the dog sing in the middle, and as one would expect, the cricket fiddles. Using the format of a play, the curtains open to an idyllic outdoor scene with two birds singing “out loud on the telephone wire.”

Nelson’s exceptional mixed-media illustrations of the animals are exaggerated, whimsical, and wonderful depictions. With wide-open mouths, the choir members are seemingly bellowing their hearts out. The dimpled skin of the purple-hued hippopotamus, and all fur and feathers are skillfully and humorously rendered.

Reader/listeners will find the energy contagious. The thunderous applause to which the animal chorus bows will be echoed in family rooms across the country.
