We were on a big family road trip this month, and my back-seat critics were trying out the latest goodies from Parents' Choice on our new portable DVD player. All was quiet, all was well, when the eight-year old suddenly said, "He had a neck of iron?" At which point I nearly caused a collision. "Is that The Five Chinese Brothers?" I shrieked. "I haven't seen that since I was a girl!"

If there's a downside to Scholastic's realizing their catalog's cross-generational appeal, it's that they are shuffling titles so fast, a teacher or parent might buy a collection and not realize that they already have The Mouse and the Motorcycle from another set, (it's part of the four-disc Treasury of Twenty Storybook Classics, a Parents' Choice Gold Award Winner, Spring 2009) or that I Stink! And More Stories on Wheels is a remix of Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel and Three More Stories About Trucks (Parents' Choice Silver Award Winner, Spring 2007). The books in this set are: How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?(Spanish version included). How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food? How Do Dinosaurs Get Well Soon? Danny and the Dinosaur (Spanish version included). Dinosaur Bones. Stanley and the Dinosaurs. T is for Terrible. Pete's a Pizza. Moon Man (Spanish version included). Max's Words. The Great White Man-Eating Shark. The Island of the Skog. What's Under My Bed? The Five Chinese Brothers. I Stink! Trashy Town. Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel. The Remarkable Riderless Runaway Tricycle. The Beast of Monsieur Racine. Arnie the Doughnut. The Mouse and the Motorcycle. Wee Gillis.
