Review:
The Leap Frog Text and Learn is a handheld learning tool that houses six games for young learners. Designed to look like an oversized PDA, it's complete with a QWERTY keyboard on the bottom and a small screen on the top. The device's guide/mascot, a dog named Scout, coaches users through games intended to teach skills such as letter identification, letter sounds, and days of the week. Directional arrows help navigate through the games; our adult testers playfully groaned at the pun of Scout's "paws" button.

After much conversation about whether or not the QWERTY keyboard was helpful or confusing to new alphabet explorers, our judges agreed on two points: 1) the QWERTY keyboard provides more of a challenge and less of a rote exercise to locate the letters and 2) QWERTY is a viable 21st century alphabet critical to digital learning.
