Review:
Some picture-book authors have all the luck. Imagine having a magical work about Mars, the Red Planet, hit the bookstores at almost the same moment that the headlines are reporting the loss of the nation's Mars Orbiter (destroyed when a miscalculation sent it hurtling into that planet's atmosphere). Never mind. Author Yorkinks' hero, Dr. Shtickle (an Albert Einstein look alike), has discovered that "the reason the Red Planet is red is .." yup, TOMATOES. And it's hard to dispute the good doctor when artist Mort Drucker's surreal pictures capture the spookily airborne Martian fruits "as they moved silently toward Minneapolis." All is not lost, however, as the brilliant Dr. Shtickle happens upon the perfect deterrent to tomatoes from Mars. This zany picture-book souffle will delight and baffle its lucky listener/viewers.
