Holidays and Celebrations
Fall 2009 MusicReview:
Singer-songwriter Vincent marks major (and minor) holidays and special occasions throughout the calendar year with a smart and engaging mix of new songs and tracks from his previous albums. Although the instrumental "Graduation March" finale feels like a bit too much electronic padding and the relationship between holiday and song is sometimes tenuous, overall this thoughtful CD is a mellow treat.
A happy "Birthday Dance" starts the tour, followed by a touching reworking of "Oh! Susanna" that becomes a big brother's goodbye to his little sister as he leaves for his first day of school. "Sail Away" marks Columbus Day with a voyager's sense of wistful nostalgia. "I've Got a Pumpkin" is a singalong delight. Other selections: Earth Day ("Eagle's Song"), Patriot's Day ("Ben Franklin"), Valentine's Day ("Pen Pals") and the first day of spring ("Yellow Flower").
