Snow Book & CD Set

Spring 2010 Audio Book
Ages: 3 & Up
Producer: Macmillan Audio
CD Price: $9.99
Caldecott-recipient Uri Shulevitz's lovely picture book, included as part of an audio set, is a testament to the transformative power of a snowfall on a village landscape. Here, a young boy and his dog witness a few flakes that they are convinced will turn into heavier snow. People in town dismiss the idea, but as the snow gradually accumulates something magical happens. Shulevitz's text is spare, yet also poetic, as he writes of snow "circling and swirling, spinning and twirling." The simple text makes it easy for beginning readers to follow along with the audio book (track two of the CD is a read-along version that goes with the picture book). The book's illustrations feature a soft muted palette, gradually brightening as the city is blanketed with white. This is a charming, quiet story perfect for sharing with a small child on a snowy winter day.
