Review:
New to the PBS Kids lineup this year, Dinosaur Train is the animated television series that teaches preschoolers about dinosaurs as Buddy, a young T-Rex, travels by train through different prehistoric time periods. The website complements the show and allows children to further explore the world of dinosaurs through games, videos and other activities.

The site is easy to navigate, engaging and filled with fun facts about dinosaurs from Allosaurus to Velociraptor and 18 others in-between. The Field Guide provides an overview of each dinosaur and the time period in which they lived, an x-ray of their skeletal structure, their size compared to the size of a kid and the type of food that they ate. Each section, including navigational elements and instructions, is narrated aloud for pre-readers to easily follow along. Additionally, the content is presented in a way that makes it easier for young children to comprehend. The "How Big Are You?" game quizzes kids on how big dinosaurs are compared to modern day animals that they are familiar with. A triceratops, for example, is 5 cows long.

Fans of the show will enjoy watching clips from Buddy's travels and those with Dr. Scott, the show's paleontologist, who teaches viewers about dinosaurs and other scientific concepts. The parents' section offers ideas for at-home dinosaur exploration and instructions for making your own Buddy costume based on a pattern designed by the Jim Henson Company.

Although during our evaluation period we found the games inventory slight, the site is well worth any young dinosaur enthusiast's visit.
